At Dragonfly Gardens, we believe food is sacred, and vegetables fresh from the garden are one of life’s greatest pleasures.
View the CatalogComing from the garden, vegetables are one of life’s greatest pleasures: in taste, in color, in nutrition and in producing health and vitality. At Dragonfly, our vegetable plants are rooted in living organic soil, the best and highest priced available from our supplier. In March, we begin seeding, prioritizing organic and heirloom seeds that are known for both culinary excellence and regionally adaptive vigor.
Once germinated, we strive to match crop seedlings with the right-size container — not always easy given the rapidly changing spring temperatures and seasonally variable onset of good growing conditions. In general, Dragonfly strives to give each plant enough space in a pot so that by its anticipated optimal sell date, that plant is healthy and its roots well-developed.
View Our CatalogHappily, Dragonfly is well-equipped with high-tunnels that have excellent ventilation — roll-up sides, temperature activated louvers and fans — and a high quality heating plant — front and back furnaces with high fans for air mixing. Strong early heat or late cold during a crazy Wisconsin April? Our team can handle it.

Once germinated and in the right-size pot, Dragonfly staff take great care of our vegetable plants. We monitor weather closely, looking for opportunities to move spring crops out of doors so they closely mirror the actual conditions in our region. The concept of “hardening off” is baked in when plants are experiencing the out-of-doors as early as possible. Cool conditions are important for brassicas, radishes, lettuce and others.
For summer crops, like tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers, eggplant, et al, warmer conditions provided by our furnaces and tunnels, move soil temperatures into the optimum growing zone as early as possible. As May proceeds, these crops are sized-up and ready to hit the ground running. Our staff is quick to caution customers about weather ahead, and when to plant what given the ongoing spring conditions. We love to help gardeners get the most from our vegetable plants!
