The Secret is Not Out Yet.

But, it may be soon.

As subscribers of the Dragonfly Newsletter, you are the first to know.  Bloom (Micro) Cafe is now licensed and open for business, with real food tailored for lunches.  At least on Friday and Saturdays in December, 10: 00– 3:00. It is the classic “soft opening” with limited menu choices and new systems under the microscope for testing purposes. We don’t want a “crowd”, we want engaged customers who value quality, seasonality and good taste.

There will be good coffee and tea, quiche, kale salad, lasagna, butternut squash soup, a sandwich, homemade baguette, cider, and a few other touches, like apple pie, cranberry bread.  This is all created in-house, with quality ingredients, organic and local where we can find them.  And, believe me, it is a struggle to source locally at this time of year — on the fly.

There is more to explain about the guiding inspiration behind Bloom Cafe, but for now, let’s be thankful it’s gotten this far.  There is much that is wrong with
America’s food system, from highly processed foods to menus that encourage unlimited choices, and a preference for unhealthy volume over food quality.

Bloom Cafe will be taking a principled stand against prevailing norms and in favor of what we know to be true:  food should be wholesome and nutritious, prepared in-house with local sourcing whenever possible, and especially, it should be sensibly seasonal.  There are very sound reasons why you can’t get good tomatoes in December, local asparagus in January and fresh strawberries in March — from transportation realities, to nutritional value, to economic and ecological costs.

Bloom is not afraid to say “no” to the excesses of America’s food system, and “yes” to what is right and sensible when it comes to being responsible eaters.

Anyway, it’s just lunch.  And, for now, it’s just December.  So, small potatoes.  But real ones, grown right here.

As always:  Dragonfly Gardens has plants, seasonal beauties, excellent stocking stuffers, porch pots, greenery, and all the trimmings.

To the lucky and intrigued few:  Come on down!
