Native plants play a crucial role in sustaining local wildlife and promoting biodiversity. With their deep root systems, they help prevent soil erosion and filter pollutants, contributing to a healthier ecosystem. Native plants require less water and maintenance compared to non-native species, making them an environmentally-friendly choice for your garden.
Our Native Plants
We grow a large selection of species of native grasses, perennials, ferns, shrubs and trees. We specialize in providing plants for rain gardens, wildflower gardening and prairie, forest and lake edge restorations. We grow from seed collected in northern Wisconsin and Minnesota or purchased from native seed companies in MN and WI. Potted native shrubs, trees and ferns are purchased as bare root stock from regional nurseries.
Availability
Many species are available throughout the growing season of June-October. When your selected species is not available, we are happy to suggest an appropriate substitute or notify you when it is available. We can custom grow if the size you require is not offered. Please give us 12+ weeks lead-time so we can meet your needs.
How to Purchase
Please Note: Native Plants at Dragonfly are not available until mid-May! They are warm season plants and we produce them to fit within the summer growing season. Our native plants are available in our retail space after May 7th, where our friendly staff will be happy to help answer your questions! You can check the availability of specific plants ahead of time by emailing your wish list to natives@dragonflygardens.net. Please see below for minimum requirements to preorder.
About Pre-Ordering
Preordering is not necessary for most sales. We are primarily a retail outlet where you can shop and choose your plants.
We’re happy to accept preorders for full single-species flats of 2″ pots (32 ct.) or 4″ pots (15 ct.) or predesigned collections. Please email your wishlist to natives@dragonflygardens.net for availability and timing. We’ll have your order pulled and ready to be picked up or delivered on an agreed on date. We pull orders from May 15 to October 15.
Preorders will be invoiced by email. Payment can be made at Dragonfly Gardens at the time of pickup or anytime before that. A 25% deposit is required only for orders over $500 and will be requested in the invoice.
If you plan to purchase smaller quantities, stop by and shop our new, expanded retail space!

Please remember that plants are living things so everything in our catalog may not be available at all times. We’d be happy to answer your questions about current availability. If we don’t have what you’re looking for, we can let you know when it might be ready or suggest a good substitution. Check out our Native Species Recommendations for some ideas!

Delivery is available with rates depending on distance and order size. Plant pickup is always welcome. Please make an appointment for pickup so we can provide you with personalized attention and service.
Preordering is available for full, single-species flats (2″ or 4″) or predesigned collections only. For smaller quantities, come check out our retail area!
We do not ship plants via USPS or other carriers.
